Hello to anyone out there! This blog, or should I say an attempt at a blog, is aimed to be satire in nature. The names of the residents and employees will be changed to protect privacy along with resident rights.
Backstory: As a lover of shows like The Office and Parks and Recreation, I always believed there could be a show based around assisted living. What’s to come will be my day in the life of being a director of sales within a ‘community’ (what we in the industry call our buildings).
Our community has around 55 residents that call this place home. We have resident that range from completely independent, to needing a little assistance here and there, as well as those with dementia and or Alzheimer’s. My job is to meet with potential residents and their families to see if we are a good match and vice versa. I meet and exchange pleasantries, maybe offer them a meal if their interested in trying the food, show them around the community and introduce them to other residents, and then proper follow up after the tour is completed.
The people that call this place home have lived very interesting lives, and have plenty of stories to tell. From hilarious tales, to frightening war stories, and plenty of heartache along the way, their stories are never short of substance. Our community is much like a college dorm, you have different ‘clicks’ if you will. Some of the residents get along great, some even have love interests within the building, love triangles even, and some just can’t stand one another. That is where the idea for this blog came from, those who can’t stand each other and how they act towards one another, or what they say. Not to mention, just your run of the mill funny moments you see when you combine 55 different personalities along with employees much younger than the 55 residents, all in one building.
As mentioned, this will be satire in nature, but that does not undermine the wonderful things that does take place in these communities. MOST of the people that work in this industry are wonderful, caring individuals who truly have the residents safety and interests in mind.
